The Binder of the Past – Searching for Clues in the Mortar of the Turmhölzle Ruins

A lecture by Dr. Maria Affonso im Stadtmuseum Schopfheim

Dr. Maria Thais Affonso is a researcher in the Geoarchaeology Research Group at the University of Basel. In this lecture, the archaeometrist will demonstrate how scientific analyses of mortar provide surprising insights into the construction period, the origin of the materials, and the knowledge of ancient and medieval master builders.

She will clearly explain how exciting insights into life and work in past centuries can be gained from seemingly unremarkable building materials, and what results the analysis of the mortar from the Turmhölzle castle ruins in Raitbach has yielded.

Admission is free.
The address is:
Wallstraße 10
79650 Schopfheim

The event is organized by the Schopfheim City Museum.
